Programme Information

The Doctor of Medicine program at Universiti Sains Malaysia (MD USM+1) at the Institut Perubatan dan Pergigian Termaju (IPPT) will begin its intake for the 2024/2025 academic session. IPPT serves as an additional location for Phase I studies (pre-clinical phase: Year 1 and Year 2) of the Doctor of Medicine programme, apart from the Pusat Pengajian Sains Perubatan (PPSP) at the Health Campus, USM. For the subsequent phase of study (Phase II; clinical phase: Year 3, Year 4, and Year 5), students will be placed at PPSP.

The Doctor of Medicine programme at Universiti Sains Malaysia (MD USM+1) is a professional programme consists of two phases: Phase I, the pre-clinical phase (Year 1 and Year 2), and Phase II, the clinical phase (Year 3, Year 4, and Year 5). In addition to the Pusat Pengajian Sains Perubatan (PPSP) at the Health Campus, Phase I of the studies will also be conducted at Institut Perubatan dan Pergigian Termaju (IPPT) starting from the 2024/2025 academic session. The programme's curriculum model is based on the SPICES and SPICES 2.0 concepts

Programme Structure for MD USM+1 at IPPT

Phase I consists of four semesters and comprises of the programme core courses related to basic medical as well as university courses.

Phase I Curriculum

The first and the second years of this program prepares for basic medical course for the students. It includes the study of structure, function and biochemical process of a normal human being which form the basis of pathophysiology and clinical basis of diseases in different systems.

A study on bioethics, social health, communication skills, behavioural science, first aid, basic research methodology and the exposure to the clinical environment in the hospital and in community medicine and public health are also provided to the students.

Learning Method

Various interactive learning methods such as lecture, seminar, laboratory practical, problem-based learning, clinical demonstration, hospital visit, online learning, and community placement.

Tuition Fees

  • RM 35,000.00 per semester for Malaysian
  • USD 13,750.00 per semester for Non-Malaysian
